Just noticed that there are over five times the number of foreigners in Danwon-gu even though it has slightly less people in total than Sangnok-gu. Is Danwon-gu a big location for foreign factory workers there? Can anyone give a short description of the difference between the two? Which place would an English teacher prefer to live in?
No urgent or specific reason for asking, just wondering.
Sangnok-gu: 372,825 people, 3,298 foreigners
Danwon-gu: 350,250 people, 20,958 foreigners
And they all seem to be in two places there: Wongokbon-dong (8,708) and Choji-dong (9,330). Those two alone account for 74% of the foreign population of the city. |

Is the heavily foreign area around Ansan station? It's a foreign ghetto like Itaewon, but catering to Chinese and South Asians.
Can't say where would be better to live for an English teacher..neither are prime areas. |

Sangnok-gu is in east Ansan while Danwon-gu is west-Ansan. There aren't very many factories in east Ansan; it's basically a suburb. Foreigners living in the eastern part of Ansan are more likely to be English teachers (though I have seen the odd russian...). To the west, however, there is a high concentration of industrial zones. The air is awful, it's dirty, and the foreigners are brown.
Actually, the industrial zones are quite interesting... I'll have to go there and take some photos. With names like 'Chemical Zone 23' it's an interesting subject matter. If only it didn't smell so bad. |
