since coming to Korea in '02 and spending years on the second largest island of Geoje wondering about the contrasts and comparisons with the largest island, I have personally talked with about a dozen teachers who worked on Jeju and plenty more through Dave's.

1) Are they less xenophobic? |
More so in some ways. That is, the distinction between them and us is felt more clearly there some have said, but yet with more willingness to talk, in Korean of course.

2) Is it cheaper to live than Seoul? |
Despite my cheap trip there last year, many say it isn't cheaper, all things considered, unless you forgo airline trips to Seoul/Busan and live a simpler island life, scootering around, drinking less.

3) Are people generally nicer to Foreigners than on the main land? |
Than in Seoul anyways, yes. Everyone agrees about that.

4) Are bosses just as corrupt there as everywhere else? |
More so! in that there are a couple of bad apples and they keep bobbing up. But overall? *shrug*

If you choose Busan you could be in Japan by cheap ferry by noon on saturdays once a month or so.
Good luck whatever. |
