So....I have my Lonely Planet Mongolia guide book and I've looked it over and saw some things I'd like to take in, but I'm strangely stuck. How do you guys plan your trips using the Lonely Planet guide book?

This is a silly question but any advice or "strategy" would be helpful.

Embarrassed beyond all measure,

I'm assuming you want the step-by-step?

1. Check out whatever place you're flying into. Book a hostel. Decide how many days approx. to stay there based on suggested things to see, etc.

2. Cruise the rest of the book and decide what looks good.

3. Sometimes there are suggested itineraries for various lengths of time that you have. These are helpful.

4. Failing this, just book a hostel for the first couple nights and see how things go. Sometimes this is the best option.

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking. It seems pretty simple to me.

Thank you. I have never used a Lonely Planet book before. I've traveled a bit before but usually it was to see friends in other countries or someone else did the logistical footwork. Plus going to Mongolia while exciting is definitely outside of comfort zone, I guess.

Anyway, I only have a few days to plan this trip, so time if of the essence and I guess the expediency of it all is getting to me...
