I want to ship some prescription medicine from the USA for personal use, and some websites I found say this about Korea:

- Import of prescription drugs is subject to approval of Health Ministry.
- Prescription drugs should be no more than 3 months' supply.
- Non-prescription drugs should be limited to 5 pieces of each item.
- Prohibited items: DHEA

I don't understand the first part. Do I have to go out of my way to get approval from the Health Ministry, or does it automatically approve most prescription medicine shipments when they arrive in Korea? Is there anything special I have to do?

I used to get my prescription meds DHL'd from home every 3 months, the rules back home only let me get 3 months at a time anyway. Each time my folks included a copy of a letter from my doctor explaining why I needed the pills.
After the first couple of times I had to send DHL an email with my passport page, the same letter enclosed in the package and a note in the email itself explaining why I needed the pills. The second last shipment I recieved was inspected or something and I had to pay a small fee.
BUT I got pissed at customs and DHL asking me for the same shit each time, I went off at them asking why the hell don't they keep my records, seeing it's the same stuff each time. So last time I got 6 months supply no questions.
Customs can be real tossers. I got a backup copy of my digital pics on a CDR sent over, they wanted to charge me duty on it!
