I've just seen SiCKO and, IMO, it's definitely a must-watch. Better than other documentaries done by Michael Moore. The biggest surprise for me was how great Europe, especially France, looked in the film. They have free nannies to help out young mothers? Get outta here!

The biggest problem with the U.S. healthcare system is insurance. What does insurance do? It doesn't cure people. It doesn't create new, wonderful drugs. What it does is it denies medical care to sick people for profit. According to Michael Moore, the U.S. is the only developed country in the world without universal healthcare for its citizens. I know it's not the only thing that the U.S government isn't being responsible for right now (e.g. New Orleans), but I guess Mr. Moore picked a good topic for his new documentary. I highly recommend everyone to see it. (Michael Moore says you can download it too. Yah! Twisted Evil)

Yea, I saw it. This is not new news to me as I learned 10 years ago all about how good Europe's social system is to its' people. Such as full medical, 6 weeks paid vacation a year for all workers, and 3 year maternity leave for mothers.

The downside is very high taxes of 35% to 47%, though the incomes are typically much higher than in America. When I lived in Germany 10 years ago, a Mcdonalds worker earned like $15/hour, while in America they earned only $5.35/hour with no benefits. It was not uncommon for people to earn $100,000 a year for more skilled and professional jobs in Germany 10 years ago and pay $35,000 of it in taxes while Americans might have been paid only $35,000 a year for the same type of jobs while having to pay even more after tax income for health care benefits. The reason why Americans want to evade taxes is that they don't seem to get anything for their money like the way Canadians and Europeans do. It all goes overseas, to politicians, and business executives.

Really, despite the high taxes, the European and Canadian systems are a good deal, but you have to hold an E.U. citizen passport to partake. You can get in if you got big money and a business plan though....but then you wouldn't need socialistic help in that case. European countries are very nationalistic in restricting immigration as to protect their own economic securities, because everyone wants the good life.

I'm just pleased that MM has tried to lose some weight, thereby helping America to deal with its health care issues.

Bravo Mr. Propagandist!!! Your contribution to reducing America's ill-health is much appreciated, seeing as you...., all of you, all 140kilograms....that is.......... is currently being covered by the world's most ADVANCED health care system.

If you were normal-sized, our system could squeeze in a few more uninsured...keep up the good work!

Clearly it's far from the most advanced health care system. It may be home to the most advanced technology and procedures at the top end, but as a system, in terms of how it fulfills it's breif to deliver health care to the population, it is far from the most advanced health care system in the world.

So, if Moore lost weight, some uninsured people would get treatment?

I am no fan of Moore but to it is pretty clear that the health care system in the US doesn't work they way it should in a lot of ways for a lot of reasons.

I enjoyed the movie but, once again, Moore conveniently omits some facts to prove his point. Why doesn't he mention that the US outranks Cuba in the WHO health care rankings?

Why doesn't he list the average emergency wait time across Canada? (which is higher than all of the individuals he interviews). Or the non-emergency wait lists? (which average over 10 weeks)

Why doesn't he mention that when world leaders are in troble(from King Hussein to Boris Yeltsin), they go to America for treatment?

And I wish he would explain why French citizens elected a right-wing President in the past election if they are so happy with their socialist system.

This movie is well made, and the overall point I think is a valid one. But does the end justify the means?

Yes it does, he's hardly alone in playing politics. He's infinitely more restrained and genuine than say an Anne Coulter or a Rush Limbaugh.

It's right there, up front and centre:

It's in the trailer as well:

That's how it works in Canada.

That's hardly a fair comparison. Coulter and Limbaugh aren't even human beings

My apologies, Mith. It went by so fast that I missed it in the movie. Did he ever call attention to it? I think it was a passing shot of a split second with no emphasis ever placed. I would have liked Moore to point out that the US ranks #1 in terms of shorter wait times and satisfaction(by the WHO). Just to give some balance. I'm guessing if you asked Sicko viewers after the movie where the US ranks, they wouldn't be able to tell you.

I'm not sure actually as I haven't seen it yet. I remember him writing on the site that Cuba ranks only two places below in spite of only using a few hundred dollars per person, but I don't know what he says in the movie.

What's the point having "the world's most ADVANCED health care system" when you can't afford to get treated because you don't have health insurance or your health insurance company denies you the treatment you need?
