I've been told my apartment will be 13 pyong. They converted it to 530 square feet. I must confess that I really don't know what either number means in Korea. I was in a loft once and was told it was 15 pyong. When I looked at the models in the lobby I found out it was actually about 11 pyong. It was tiny but OK for a single guy.

So...13 pyong. It it really much different that 11 pyong?

No, not really. 13 pyong is a good size for a single person. Also, most teachers' apartments are around 10 pyeong, to be honest.

I am in Hong Kong right now and there are families of 4 that live in a 13 pyong flats here! So consider yourself lucky.

13 pyeong is liveable for a single person...

I live in a 16 pyeong apart with the girlfriend at the moment and it is Ok as it has 2 main room to chill out in...we are moving into a brand new 45 pyeong in november though so just a little longer in the shoebox.

However, it will be old as they haven't built 13 pyoeng aparts for at least 10 year...smallest i see nowdays is about 24.

The Greatly Esteemed and Ultimately Prized Spousal Unit and my lowly self live in a place that is just under 15 pyeong. We like each other a lot, though, and that's why it's been working so far. Everyone who has come over to the place has commented that we need a bigger apartment, though. We're working on it.

13 pyeong is fine if are a single person ... hey, far less sweeping or vacuuming to do, right?

10-13 pyeong is like a small studio apartment. Good for 1, but not so great for 2 as there is only one sleeping/living area. 15-18 pyeong is probably a 1 bedroom. Anything over 20 pyeong is probably 2+ bedrooms.

This is all depending on location!! I've heard about the "Seoul pyeong" which is MUCH different (smaller) than the pyeongs in other provinces!

I've been using this site for years, and found it accurate. I really impressed folks here when I knew my pyongs. Thanks to Dave's crew, too.

You non-metric folks will find the site especially useful.

Now that I think about it, a good suggestion would be to bring a scientific calculator that does metric conversions. I did. Helps when using my metric bath scale.
