I'm back in the US for a few weeks between contracts, and I'm surprised to see how the headlines are dominated by celebrities, even on networks that aren't E! or VH1. Michael Vick, Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Ritchie, and so on. Maybe it's always been this bad, or maybe it's just bad timing.
Ritchie got 4 days in jail---96 hours, but I"m not even sure if they have to be served consecutively---for her second DUI. There's still a lot of ball left to be played with Vick and Lohan, but I have a feeling they're gonna get light sentences (probation).
And when did Lohan become such a mess?
edit: Just watched a few minutes on the Lohan and Ritchie cases on the Nancy Grace show . . . so this is what passes for journalism now? *sigh* |

| I was taken aback by how absolutely dominated newspapers and radio are by Iraq, which I was much more insulated from while in Korea. And doubly thwacked by how even more awful USA Today is than I remember. |

The news has always focused on high profile cases dealing with reckless celebrities in the past. OJ, Kobe, Clinton... to name a few. They just tend to stick out more among the neverending constant barrage of news from Iraq and other parts of the world.
Recently the focus has been on young female celebrities because their behavior has gotten out of control. DUIs and drugs are serious issues and celebrities shouldn't be able to get away with doing things that are potentially dangerous to society. They shouldn't get special treatment because of their status.
In real life, doing drugs gets you fired. It's hard to find a job with a drug record. I don't get why some people (like Barbara Walters, Kelly Ripa) feel sorry for Lindsay and still want her in Hollywood. She simply doesn't deserve it. I don't see talent in her, to me she's just an obnoxious girl with a catty superiority complex. |
