Hello again friends. Here is some news that some of you may be interested in. North West is going out of business.

As of now I have a ticket booked with a travel agent friend leaving from Korea in a few weeks. My return date was December 5th originally. But my friend just called to let me know that NW will be officially out of operation by this date. Luckily, I had purchased and open-return-dated ticket, so I was able to switch the date. For anyone with a ticket anytime after October, I highly recommend that you call up NW. As far as I know it hasn;t been officially announced yet.

Good luck!

I don't know how he got the info. He is a travel agent. It's his job to know. I didn't see it on any news sites.

Earnings Preview: Northwest Airlines
Monday July 30, 6:56 am ET
Analysts Expect Northwest Airlines to Report 79 Cents Per Share in Second Quarter Earnings

NEW YORK (AP) -- Northwest Airlines Corp. reports second-quarter earnings on Tuesday. The following is a summary of key developments and analyst opinion related to the period.

OVERVIEW: Northwest Airlines emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy at the end of May as a more efficient carrier.

It capped a long procession of major U.S. airlines restructuring under a court's protection, following US Airways, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines. Like its competitors, Northwest used the time to slash its debt, operating costs and workforce to better compete with low-cost carriers.

During the quarter, the overall U.S. airline industry suffered amid signs of a weakening domestic travel market. International operations, though, remained strong. Northwest has a particularly strong route system to Asia.

Recently, analysts say the industry has benefited as carriers have reined in some of their domestic capacity growth. By cutting capacity, the industry gains more pricing power.

Northwest said earlier this month its second-quarter traffic slipped 0.3 percent despite a 0.9 percent rise in capacity. The carrier said lighter traffic at its regional operations offset growth to Asia and Europe.

BY THE NUMBERS: Wall Street, on average, expects quarterly earnings of 79 cents per share, according to a Thomson Financial analyst survey.

ANALYST TAKE: Morgan Stanley analyst William J. Greene wrote in a recent research report that improving pricing power and reduced costs may help offset Northwest's traffic declines.

"Going forward, NWA will likely be less aggressive in growing capacity, which should help an improving yield story in the industry," he wrote. Yield is a key industry metric that measures fare trends.

STOCK PERFORMANCE: Northwest's stock closed the quarter at $22.20. That's down 11.7 percent from the $25.15 the stock closed at on May 31, its first day of trading.

MUCh too late for that. I'm leaving in early August and coming back in late August. I'm flying part of the way on Northwestern. NOT nice to make people feel like they are suddenly going to puke. Sad Now, you owe me.

This is why you never trust what a Korean tells you. They will always talk bad about American companies and tell you how great Samsung, hyundea, lg ect. are.

It's those damn prepositions Koreans can never get.

Going out FOR business vs going out OF business.

I don't think it's true...I interviewed with NW as a flight attendant...well I only got to the screening stages..I didnt attend the interview. I was invited but declined. This was a year ago...they sent me an email a few days ago...stating that I initially passed the screening process and was invited for an on site interview..and that if I decide to come, I should call some 800 number and confirm. If they were going bankrupt, I dont think they'd hire more flight attendants Very Happy

They have some butt-ugly stewardesses. God bless Asian airlines. They still discriminate based on looks, which I feel is vital for a happy traveling experience.

I don't need to be woken up by Attilla the Hun's sister to tell me to prepare for landing.

It can be a double-edge sword. Although NW attendants would generally not win any beauty contests, most of them on trans-Pacific flights have vast experience. I was on a NW flight many years ago with my then-young son (he's now finishing his master's degree). He had a severe gut ache mid-ocean and I was beginning to panic. The attendants very calmly sorted everything out and it turned out to be nothing serious. On the other hand, I was on a KAL flight where I remember the cute attendants panicking at everything. I'll take experience over eye-candy for long flights...

Yeah, we should be telling them how great Zenith, GM, and Motorola brands are.
