So today I ride subways and run through pouring rain to find a store called bikeland near sangbang exit of subway. After about an hour of searching I finally find the place...

So I start looking through their bikes on display, I find one that is about 300k and close enough to the size im looking for. (I'm very tall so this is a problem)... I point to it and ask to buy it, the guy says something I don't understand and "NO." He then points to a more expensive 800k bike that is slightly larger, I say no too expensive and ask to buy the affordable one again... He says NO again, so I ask about the one next to it, roughly the same size and about 40k more, NO again.

What's the deal here? He wouldn't even let me order it!

That's the last unit in the store and they don't sell display bikes?

What were you expecting?

I asked to order any of the 3 affordable bikes and they refused.. So, if I can't order it then why do they need the last unit?

This might point at something deep and ugly. I say this because he was so rude to you.

Do a 20/20 ABC Show investigation of your own. Have a Korean friend go alone and try to buy the bike you wanted. See if it was just you or if there's a good explanation why that particular bike can't be purchased.

I thought about going back with a korean friend but it's way too far out of my way, I think I'm just going to walk until someone posts a cheap one on here or craigslist for sale. I also heard about a couple shops closer to where I live so I'll try that too.

I really have nothing against them, I mean I wont shop there again, but other than that I could care less. I'll get a bike somewhere else eventually. I'm mostly just curious why they would refuse...

Anyways, if anyone knows of a place where I can get a 19" or more frame mountain bike/hybrid for 400k or below let me know.

Hey, i'm 6'2 and live in Bucheon. I bought a pretty decent Lespo bike from a shop here for only 120K. It is more than sufficient for riding around town. All my "foreign" friends here have bought bikes from this store and none of them have had any problems with the bikes. The store owner is super nice and speaks decent english. He also gave me two free locks, one for the frame and one so I don't have to take my quick release seat with me every time. Bucheon is about 30-60 minutes from seoul on line 1. If you are interested, PM me and i'll send you directions to the bike shop

the first time i went to buy a bike in korea i tried to buy a used one - the owner had several outside his store - for sale - but refused to sell any of them to me -

i went to a store around the corner and bought a new one and the guy threw in a couple of accessorie real cheap and always took care of it for me, no charge.

some just don't want to do business w/foreigners - i've since gone thru 3 bikes here and have had similar experiences in different stores - just walk out and find another one - there are many many bike stores here.

happy cycling!
