This list is well out of date, the data comes from 1997 and the report was released in 2000. Even Yugoslavia is on the list at 106. It's not a country anymore.

Out-of-date? Do you think WHO produces such a report every year? In any case, better to cite the actual report.

I'm surprised Sweden's is as low as it is and Colombia's is that high.

i'm not doubting the fact that it is the most recent, just the fact that the facts come from a decade ago.

I'm surprised Portugal is above the UK. The former is traditionally a poorer European country (with per capita GDP 50% of the UK) whilst the UK for many years boasted of having the best in the world.

Looking at WHO's 5 criteria used in rating nations, there's little surprise America ranked what it did. With HMOs firmly running most of the show in America, that's a huge disadvantage. However, if I needed life or death surgery, I'll take my chances with the good old US of A. There's a reason why the United States is the provider of choice for specialized surgery for those who can afford it, in the world. Yes, I get the irony.

Yeah, there are a lot of surprises there. Looking at the list again, I'm really surprised Australia's is ranked so low. I've always heard really good things about their healthcare system. It's supposed to be one of the most efficient, but apparently not. Oman's placing also shocks me. Anyone ever been there before? And Finland's too.

Healthcare systems are static over the years. Unless there's a massive overhaul of the system, it wouldn't affect the rankings much today. None of these countries has really changed their system since then.
