I'm tempted to go to Africa. The only thing holding me back is the costs (flight ticket is no big deal, though). The sort of trip I'm thinking of would be:
fly to Nairobi, spend a night or two there, head to Tanzania
do a safari for at least a 4 days
And I'd really like to climb Mount K (I heard this costs around $700 and lasts 6 days. Does that sound right?).
Also, I wouldn't mind volunteering somewhere in the region for a few weeks, to keep costs down, extend the trip and do something positive. Does anyone have any tips for finding a quality volunteer job in the region, without paying an exhorbitant fee? Any idea on what sort of budget I'm looking at? I'd like to spend a minimum of 2 weeks there, and a maximum of maybe $2,200 (excluding air). So, is this possible on my budget? Any help would be appreciated, even alternative destinations in Africa that might be more cost-efective.
