I started this public school job in May.

I know it's a long time away, but if I decided to stay another year, would I need to get a new medical check and criminal records check done?

I've heard they give you 2 weeks off before you start the next contract, which would mean I'd have to arrange both med/crim checks in good time.

As regards the overtime pay for afterschool thread, I've noticed according to my fairly poor maths skills, my overtime doesn't seem to been paid.

I was asked to sign papers a week or so ago for overtime payments, which would mean my pay for July would have been at least 1.9m won instead of 1.7m won, which is the standard amount for the first 3 months after housing deductions are made.

My co-teacher is abroad on holiday, so when she returns I'll ask her to check how much my total pay should have been and how much I was paid. The downside of not knowing Korean, is I feel I can't accurately check how much money is going into my account.

Don't you have an ATM card? look at how much money is going into your account!
Your school should also be giving you a payslip/sheet every month showing all deductions and the total net and gross pay.

Yes, I have an ATM card. I've learned how to withdraw money, I'll take a closer look at it today. Thanks.

No. Although, if you do re-sign some time during the second year you will be asked to get a medical which is mandatory for all public school teachers and will be paid for by your school.

Thanks. From my calculations, I think they paid me 1.7m won, they said I would be paid extra for overtime.

I don't remember seeing an option at the ATM for checking what's been paid into the account.

Thank you spliff. I will try my passbook some time.

No payslips though. I will ask the co-teacher when she returns.

Could it be that you will be give your overtime from July in your August wage packet? That's what happens with me.

Thank you ilovebdt. That maybe the case. I've been here only 2 months and in fairness so far they've given me everything I'm meant to get.

I'm new to all this.

Nevertheless, I will check with my co-teacher about all issues I've mentioned here. I like to have peace of mind.

I was a bit miffed when I realised the extra effort I was putting into extra classes (for overtime), was wiped out when a few classes were canceled.

This would take my total for the week to 22 hours or under.
So no overtime, even though the classes were the hardest I worked for all week!

Next term, I am going to be choosey about when I do overtime.
