How would you feel if you could not communicate directly with people from other nations? You've never been in that boat, but to me it would seem like a shame. Of course there are still many many people we cannot communicate with much, but I mean almost everybody from all other nations outside your own.
Or if you had a teacher who couldn't speak your language, and you could barley understand him or communicate with him? That would seem strange I think. Not something I ever experienced as a student.
Or if you knew that when you go visit another country you will have a devil of a time understanding anybody or communicating with anybody in public situations? Well perhaps we all know that feeling, sort of.
Well I guess a lot of people know these feelings better than we do. Or am I completely off the mark here and just believing it is a bigger deal than it really is? |

Well, I'm not a student here, but I cant talk to the locals in their language.
Then again, I'm brutally stand-offish so I dont care. |

so in this case posco, you say that it good to have a teacher that can't speak the students language? you learned more and better?
i don't care, it is paying me a good living and enabling me to be with the one i love while she finishes university, but i will never understand the fact that people pay a lot of money to learn a foreign language from a foreigner who can't speak the students language. seems really silly to me. surely the student would learn more from someone who can speak the student's language and the target language? maybe....? |

Not true, and proven time and again in linguistic studies. People need to learn the target langeuage IN the target language. |
