I hope some of you veterans can help with these questions.
1. Does anyone know the salary scale for international schools in korea?
2. I hold a Canadian passport but I was not born in Canada...just raised
here. I read somewhere here that it would be hard for me to get a
working visa in Korea, is this true? ...I do have my B.Ed. and several
years of work experience in public schools.
Thanks. |

If yo uare looking into international schools, then the passport requirements are different as you won't be under an E2 visa. I suggest looking on the internet (google) for all the international schools here. I don't know about all of them, but the ones here in Busan start at about 2mil a month I think. |

For the visa, you only need the passport. Some jobs will require you to have graduated from an English University, and some will even ask that you had graduated from a Canadian high school.
Also, a good way to get around that would be to go through the Canadian school boards. The school boards have lots of programs set up where there are international schools in other countries that pay you just like if you had been back home (plus other benefits). These schools almost always give a Canadian high school diploma to those who go through them. I know for sure the British Columbia, New Brunswick and Ontario school boards (I don't know which ones specifically) do this (though I am not sure they do it in Korea, though they do in China and Japan). |

Thanks.
I tried to do a google search about salaries, but the info was based on other countries, not Korea.
As for the visa... I was educated in Canada throughout my life, so I guess I shouldn't worry about that.
I didn't know some Boards in certain provinces have schools in Korea. I've only heard of one school that uses a specific district's curriculum in B.C. Could you tell me which schools in Korea uses the Ontario curriculum? |

I am not sure which of these (if any, as I only know of people who did it in China and Japan) follow the Canadian curriculum, but to be honest that doesn't matter. IF you can teach in a Canadian school legally, that's all that matters for most of these schools. They are a much better idea for you than any hagwon, typical ESL public school job and some of the university jobs.
These places do have job fairs at times, where and when I don't know (as I am not a certified teacher, I never really looked into it). But they almost never put out many ads. They usually just hire people who get in contact with them. |
