OK, I can't spell the name of the place, but the stream that was unearthed and rejuvenated and is the pride of Seoul (seriously, I think it is one of their most admirable projects). Anyhow, I was there last night and they were hooking up their holiday lights. Not especially "Christmas"-y, but that's OK. If you want to think of them as Christmas lights, that's what they'll look like! Otherwise, maybe they are"New Year's"lights. Well, anyhow, it was really lovely. I recommend a stroll down that way some evening.

I agree, but want to add that whole area is great: besides walking along the stream there's also the Chunggycheon Museum (highlight: old pictures of the stream when it was a poverty-stricken area), the Seoul Museum of History (also has lots of great pictures of Seoul from the recent past on the Mezzanine), the Kyobo bookstore, the Starbucks across the street with the lovely rooftop patio, and if you feel like splurging on dinner, I've had great dinners at the Indian and Thai restaurants in the Seoul Finance Center (can't speak for the others, but they look good too).

Well, I still go to Kwanghwamun (to stop at Kyobo) or Chonggak (to stop at Kyungpung) and go from there. The street with the stream is just a short block "off" of Chongro. It is on the side of the (Chongro) street with the Coffee Bean (right?) and Au Bon Pain and the post office... and not much else. If you are walking by at night and look down the side street in the direction, you're bound to see the lights.
Or...because I feel like being exhaustive this morning... if you know the Outback in the area, it's just across the street from there.
In reply to cdninkorea....
Yeah, I used to shop at PyungHwa SiJang in Dongdaemun and had to walk under that ugly elevated highway, which they took down to rejuvenate the stream. I was still going there regularly as they did the major construction work. It was astonishing. What was really astonishing is that they (Korean government) would undertake such a project for environmental reasons. I doubt they really knew what an urban centerpiece the stream would become.
When you think that the Discovery channel has about two programs devoted to Korean topics (the collapse of the department store and this stream project), it really underscores the relevance of the stream project. |

Duh! Another obvious way to get there is to go out of City Hall station and go towards Kyobo. All a matter of where you are coming from, really~

Personally I'm disappointed they had to tear down a very cool market to rebuild the stream.
