What are the consequences? I was told by my boss there was a grace period and there was no need to extend my Visa. 6 days over to be exact.
There was a bit of a problem at the airport though. I went from office to office getting stamps and signing things, glaring stares, and finally an undecipherable yet mild scolding.
There was no fine and no detainment. Does this mean that I am free and clear to return? Surley they have exlplained to me I couldn't return if I was being banned, right? Or wait......maybe not. Calling the embassy gets me nowhere.....as they keep replying with "uh...uh.....no undersatnd ah.." |

I too thought there was a grace period, so I didn't bother extending my visa just by one day.
When I got to Incheon I was sent to immigration by the very sterned faced Korean Air check in staff.
Luckily, I didn't get fined. I also thought this might cause problems when I returned to Korea, but I had nothing to worry about.
Have you tried calling Mokdong immigration office?

I have not called them. I have a new contract in the works...so hopefully my new boss can work it out if there is a problem.
Thanks for the reply. I feel much better now. |

My first year here. I had a retard of a boss and came on a h-1 visa. I never went to immagration at all. When I left I was 9 months over my visa and something like a 10 million won fine. But the lady was cool and said make sure you always go to immagration. |

A friend of mine had the wrong visa end date and ended up going to immigration to get the non-working 30 day extension but it was 5 days after the visa actually ended... He just took a trip 2 days later to Japan and everything is fine.... He's in Korea on a tourist status until he does a visa run for his new job.... Kinda sucked that he had to spend the money on a trip to Japan, but otherwise there were no problems... I think it must be overstay season... |

I over stayed by 2 weeks last year and they fined me 100.000Won. I kept asking my co-teacher that I needed to go to Immi. and get it taken care of, becuase i didn't want to get into trouble. He kept telling me that I had a 2 week grace periode. Well he was wrong about the grace period. |

There is no grace period unless the person you deal with wants to give you one, is my understanding.
I overstayed by a week, same thing, didn't realise, and everything was fine, minus a lot of stressful paperwork that made me pretty rushed to get to my flight. |

The grace period is really a change of visa, I think. You need to go to immi and change to a tourist visa??? I think, giving another two weeks to stay in-country.
I've heard of people overstaying their visas, because the boss told them it was ok, for years now. |
