Commonly referred to as The Business Plot; a plan was hatched during the great depression by American businessmen and financiers, including the Heinz and Bush families, to employ half a million war vets to overthrow FDR and his "leftist" policies and install a fascist regime. Major General Smedley Butler was popular with troops and the plotters tapped him to gain the trust of disgruntled vets and organize them. Butler went along with the plot in order to expose it, and ultimately revealed the plot to congress in order to defeat it.

If people are not vigilant in their role as voters and informed citizens, then the rights commensurate with those responsibilities can be lost. The passive acceptance of a corporate driven political agenda is not an option. It isn't the Islamists that REALLY hate your freedom. . .

Yeah, I had never heard of the novel before. Apparently the novel is based, at least in part, on the 1933 coup plans.
