Thank you Tommy for that link, it was very useful reading that.
In fact I am going through the Sole Proprietor route. I have registered the business with the tax office (cost no money) but it is not related to a Hagwon so no similar difficulties that the other guy experienced. However, I have unlimited liability but I think this will change in the future should the business become healthy enough.
The same day, I went to the Bank to register a company account. I needed no money but have the bank book and all other necessary information. So far the business has not made any money, but I haven't spent any money on it yet but there is a website that is in the pipe works.
On the off chance, I went to the Ministry of Education to find out about private tutoring and they asked, "Why bother???? Why do you want to register with the Ministry of Education". A fair enough question, as Korean government officials have bigger fish to fry, but I want all the private teaching that I do to be legitimate so it doesn't cause any difficulties regarding my F2 visa status and also helps me apply for the F5 Visa in December. The Ministry of Education gave me some forms (after some persistence) that I need to fill out 15 days after registering children and adult students for private teaching. They also said, which might be more helpful for other teachers here, that teaching adults was not a problem but for children I should have a dedicated location such as a hagwon as they are more interested in child education. Pretty good info, should I ever want more privates in my free-time.
Nonetheless, thank you for the other link. I shall let people know about my experiences as they progress as it is pretty useful I guess for the future for other people. |
