I've been here for three years now. When I first got here it was difficult to do anything on the internet. Say for instance, you wanted to check your bank balance, DOUBT IT. What about buy a plane ticket, GOOD LUCK! Hmmm, reserve a train ticket for the weekend, NOT HAPPENING! Oh, Jay-Z is coming for a concert, I want to get a ticket, NO WAY.
So I took it and dealt with it, asking Korean friends to do it for me, withdrawing money from my bank and paying them in cash for what they put on their credit cards.
Now, three years later, and I still can't even buy a train ticket online. Not only can I not do that, but now that I can read Korean and have a Korean computer, I can't even install the security software bundled with these websites to make them work.
Has anyone found websites related to Korea that are useful to foreigners and allow them to do things, like reservations, ordering, etc? Thanks.
One is know of that is good for protein powder and health stuff is www.mass119.co.kr. They are somewhat useful. |

This is the reason why I laugh at Korea's international marketing for tourism. Simply talking to one foreigner, even one who has lived here for years, who has tried to navigate this country, make reservations, used websites, etc., will send the tourist elsewhere. I also laugh at the word "sparkling," which has become a synonym for "short sighted, xenophobic incompetence."
Waygooking Mall is geared toward expats, I don't remember the exact address, but there is only one.
If I use websites here, I turn to a Korean, especially when a credit card or ID number is needed. I simply pay cash to the friend. |

I've been having a lot of trouble myself booking tickets for a trip with a bunch of my friends. I've had to rely on Korean friends to do it all for me.
Of course the Korean Internet works well enough for Koreans, if you can overlook the occasional theft of identity and the regular banning of various materials considered harmful to guilty parties. |
