If it were me I would tell the recruiter. Especially if you know her and like her. Good point about the director cheating a fellow Korean. I wonder if all Korean business dealings are as sleazy as hagwon businesses. |

Hey - we poor hagwon slaves are not the only ones being screwed by hagwon bosses. I'd definitely tell your recruiter. That's bad karma. If your potential boss is trying to screw money out of a recruiter, I'm sure he or she would have no problem doing the same to you.
The only thing I'm surprised about is that the guy didn't offer you a fee for taking the job and keeping your mouth shut |

I bet this happens a lot with recruiters.
I would tell the recruiter, personally.
I would avoid the school too, for the reasons mentioned.
Bad hagwon owners are probably cheating everyone. Teachers, parents, students, recruiters and everyone else they deal with.
There's no reason they would single out foreign teachers for specially bad treatment after all.
A solution is for recruiters to provide a 'better' service - beyond introduction only. Not sure what this could be.
Might it be true that most of the more serious schools wouldn't use a recruiter? They could surely rely on personal recommendations or post ads directly on Dave's.
Most of the old hands don't seem to use them either.

I got really lucky with the job my recruiter found me. I never used one, and never planned to, but he helped me get out of a sticky situation with immigrations -- very useful. I needed a job "right now", and he had one for me. Am amazed the school has been so great -- a dream compared to what I felt was a good situation last year.
Recruiters can be good, and these days, it seems like few jobs are available without a recruiter anyway. At least there are a lot fewer to be had.
By the way, also TELL YOUR RECRUITER, and DON'T WORK FOR THAT SCHOOL. He will screw you one day too -- probably out of your bonus. |
