Anyone have any advice on which malaria pills I should be taking if I'm heading to Vietnam, Thailand, China, Cambodia and Laos? |

Not necessary. They can be harmful. |

I emphatically second that. Be very careful of the anti-malarials.
Use deet and netting. Long sleeves and pants are also a good idea. (I don't know that I ever saw a Vietnamese in shorts.) |

All depends how you get it, where you are, what strain you get. It can go from being nothing to serious quick.
Shortly after I got it (over 6 weeks to recover fully) I met a lad in Laos who had got it on Dengue Island (Ko Phang Yang or whatever it is called) he had a permanent blind spot in the center of his vision where he had managed to contract haemoregic fever and for whatever reasons haemoreged in his eye. |
