i am soon to embark on a 3 month trip, starting in china, through vietnam, cambodia, laos & finishing in thailand. i know it may sound ridiculous, but i am paralysed with fear at the thought of confronting my phobia.
managed 6 weeks in central america, and only saw one from a (great) distance in its vile little hole where it should be.
how likely am i to encounter them on my eminent trip? am particularly concerned with the tarantula variety.
my fear is really irrational - the dangerous, poisonous ones don't frighten me, just the big UGLY ones.
please advise! |

You can eat the big ugly ones in Cambodia, not as bad as you would think actually. I would be more weary of snakes myself, saw lots of snakes in Cambodia. |

yeah, my brother indulged in one. just plain wrong.
i'm more concerned about visual impact & being surprised by the evil beings on my day to day business. he assured me that unless i go off the beaten track - jungle tours etc, i'm unlikely to be affected.
but, i NEED reassurance. |

I grew up in the Philippines, and there are varieties of scary ugly spiders there. Also, here in Korea there are spiders on the side of the road hung up in telephone poles. Argh.
I'm afraid of spiders too...they creep me out....ever since a giant one jumped on my head in the Philippines when I was in bed. Sick.
I'm not trying to frighten you. But they are out there. Not normally going to find one in your hotel, but maybe if you're in a bungalow on the beach. |
