Hello there,

Just been on Holiday. Applied for a multiple entry visa via the new G4F system on the internet. I was a little suspicious at first since the application took very little time and didn't involve flying about seoul looking for an office.

I asked a Korean colleague to check that evrything was O.K on the phone and she said it was. On my outgoing flight the woman at the boarding pass desk was satisfied but when I got back it was a different story.

Immigration wouldn't let me in. Apparently when i filled in the online application I specified that I would be coming back on the 1st August instaed of the 5th (that day). I am almost certain that I did specify the 5th. Also, I asked them on the phone and at the airport if they were absolutely sure that everything would be O.K (they had my E-ticket for the flight, so they could see my return date).

That's all academic now as they've taken my E2 working visa off me and given me a tourist visa (3 months). How helpful.

Coincidentally, I have three months left on my contract.

What do i do. Stay, work and gamble or go to japan, sign a new contract, get a new alien card bla bla bla....?

Bit of a dilemma.

Any ideas would be great.

Cheers,

Scabby

Any ideas would be great.

i didn't think i was capable of despising immigration any more until now.

Something similar happened to me. I just stayed in-country and worked.

What you should do is simply go to the Immigration office and sort it out there. It's not like they're not used to messing up simple things and then having to fix them.

Yes, but what if i go to the office and they are as adament as before. The they're on to me and i'll have to go to Japan.

My experience with immigration so far has shown them to be very awkward and uncompromising. While I was in the office at the airport it didn't occur to them at any point that it could have been THEIR fault.

Have you experienced anything different? Have they ever budged with you?

I'm really surprised the airport office got it wrong. They're the ones who explained to the airline personnel the correct way to read & interpret my visa & ARC (actually, it was the younger and cute agent at the Immigration office).

Anyway, you and your employer should easily be able to fix this. If the local Immigration office can't figure it out, stay there and have them call the national office.

What you don't want to do is get caught working on the wrong visa.

I still find it mental that you have to say when you are coming back on a reentry permit.

For all it's faults and robbing visa rules the re-entry stamp for Thailand lasted as long as your visa did. If you got one on the first day of your visa left the country and then came back in on your last day your visa was stilll good.

The missus just left for a bit. Not sure when she was to come back so she wrote down the last day of her visa date. The immi official seemed quite happy with that.

Thanks Centralcali,

The problem is though that immigration beleive that they haven't made a mistake, and there is the lingering doubt in the back of my head that I DID enter the 1st as my re-entry date. Either way, do you think they will be willing to revoke their decision?

Mr Squirrel,

Your bang on mate. I argued the case with them about the multi-entry issue for ages. Told them that I have an E2 visa for the next few months and have applied for a MULTI ENTRY visa. Forgive me if i'm wrong but "multi" does mean many, rather than just once, doesn't it?

They said it doesn't work like that.

Possibly, especially if you call the national office while you're in the local.

Then the individual you're dealing with at Immigration is a complete moron. The M means multi. Tell said moron you need to confab with his supervisor and keep going up the ladder until you find someone with a brain.
