I need a police certificate from the ROK for an immigration package to a third country. Have any of you done this from abroad? Id rather (MUCH rather) not fly up to Seoul just to get a police certificate and the Korean embassy was less than helpful when I called.
(The police certificate says that I was not charged or convicted of any crimes while in Korea)
Any thoughts? |

The British Embassy in Seoul can get the record check for UK residents and you don't have to go to the embassy in person.

I needed one for a background check for a job in Canada. The form you're looking for is an "application for a criminal background check" I got it from the embassy in Canada, mailed it to the KNP, along with some international reply coupons( get'em from the post office, check with your embassy to see how many) and got a fairly prompt reply. I think the whole process took a month or two, and most of that was due to the embassy giving me the run around
Just checked my email and I've still got an electronic copy of the form. If you like, send me a pm with your email, and I'll forward the form on to you. |

| The local district police station where you live should do it for you in about ten minutes. |

It's just a Criminal Record Check:

IF I NEED A POLICE CERTIFICATE (CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK) DURING MY STAY IN KOREA, HOW CAN I APPLY FOR?
The police certificate (Criminal Record Check) is available from Korean National Police Agency(NPA), it can not be requested by an individual but it by an organisation (ie. the Embassy or your prospective employer).
For the Embassy to conduct this check on your behalf you will need to complete an application form from the NPA which we can either fax or mail to you. Once you have completed the form, please return it to us with the following documents;
1. One copy of your passport (data page only)
2. Three recent passport sized photos (3.5 x4.5 cm)
3. Stamps : W1920 (this is requested by the NPA for use for their reply)
4. Our current Consular fee: KRW78,000 (in Korean Won only)
It takes about three weeks for us to get the police record from the NPA. |
