Korea has the highest anti-business sentiment in the world, a survey has found. The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) said Thursday that compared to major global economies, the anti-business sentiment in Korea is extreme.

Accenture's survey indicated that 70 percent of the Korean CEOs said Koreans have a negative perception of businesspersons. That figure was the highest among the surveyed nations.

Out of the 40 Korean CEOs surveyed, none said Korea has a spirit of entrepreneurship.

Is this necessarily such a bad thing?

Realreality always posts these (admittedly interesting) articles but never comments on them.

Maybe the business ethics and competence of a typical hogwon owner are normal in Korea - hence the low esteem of these people.

But it probably comes from an ancient feudal mentality. We have the same thing in th UK. Most people despise the entrepreneur whose only skill seems to be risk taking.

feudal mentality? so where do all the serfs pay their tribute? I think you are referring to the confuscian mentality that praises scholars and farmers and looks down upon salesmen. that and the high amounts of corruption that exist in the korean economy

Boo hoo! Our captive consumers are no longer as docile as they once were! They no longer buy what they're told and often forget to lick the soles of our shoes! Please bring back Park Chung Hee!

I'd like to see a poll on what country has the most negatively portrayed and/or corrupt CEOs... guess which country gets my vote?

P.S. Did they ever catch up with the Daewoo chairman in France? I never did hear of any closure to that story...

That seems to be par for the course in Korea and jives with my experience talking to Koreans about their jobs, both in and out of the ESL field.

What's the difference between a Korean and a foreign employee?
The foreigner is the one who is actually surprised to discover his boss is a snake.

On the other hand- when a Korean boss is good, (s)he is GOLD; the best bosses I've ever had were Korean (but then so were the worst).
