The search isn't working for me now, but on another thread they said it depends on the item. Most clothes will not get a charge. Cameras and other electronics will.
I asked for advice about my GPS. I had it shipped to mom. She removed all packaging. She told me later she didn't put it on the customs form.
Another teacher says her mother includes a note saying something like, "here's that camera you brought with you from Korea and accidentally left
behind."
Of course people get this stuff and don't know why they weren't charged a duty. I'm assuming most packages aren't opened and if you don't put it on the customs form then no one will know. |

It used to be up to 75 dollars, inclusive of postage. Now it's up to 100 or 120, not sure which... inclusive of postage. Over and above, you have to pay 25% tax. |

Clothes WILL be charged if the value is in excess of USD150. I believe it's 15%. If others posters haven't been charged this when their package has clearly been marked with the content's value, then they got lucky. If it's happened twice, they've been really lucky! |

This was from 2001.. obviously the values will have changed by now.. but it's a good guideline:
Quote: |
When you buy clothes through website, if the CIF(price + insurance fee + Freight) of the products is less than ₩100,000(about US $77), you don't have to pay any customs duties. However, the CIF is more than ₩100,000 until US $600, you may apply the Simplified Importation Procedures. If so, the duty rate including all taxes such as Customs duties, VAT, etc. is 25% of the CIF. In addition, the value of the goods is more than US$600, you should use the formal importation procedures with all related documents like B/L, Invoice, a price certificate, etc. If you buy the goods by DHL, generally the DHL acts the works related customs as a substitute for you. Therefore, you don't need to declare it to Customs. If you have other question regarding international postal matters, you may visit "importing to korea" of "www.customs.go.kr/eng" or contact "special clearance division of Korea Customs Service at 82-42-481-7835". |
There's a phone number, too, that you can call. Most people there speak decent English (I helped edited some stuff for them before). |
