Well, we all know my past ramblings (and we can bet that there will be some more in the future). However..........after a break, I've felt better, and realized some mistakes of mine.

So, I've been looking into coming back, and doing it right. Only this time, I am not going to join the march in trying to change English education in Korea. I just plan to show up, do my job as best as I can (nothing different there) and go home. After I have gotten caught up on bills and saved some money, it will be graduate school time (or 6 months worth of backpacking around the globe).

But.........I have not really seen any contract that was worth darn. I have talked to a couple recruiting agencies, and it is all the same.

1. If you don't like the first school they throw at you, they drop you.
2. If you tell a recruiter that "Look, I only want to work for a school that is going to honor the law, and do what they are supposed to do.......which includes PAYING INTO THE NATIONAL PENSION SCHEME"............again, dropped like a bad habit.

I shouldn't be surprised, I know this. But HOLLY LIGHTNING!!!!. One would think that things would have improved? Or, perhaps it gets harder to secure a position after you've.........

1. Learned what questions to ask.
2. Learned from your mistakes.
3. Know what to look for.
4. Don't fall for the guilt trips that recruiters like to TRY and place on you.

My bad. Although, I'm currently in Montana at the moment, and there is a never ending selection of micro brew beers..............although, Fat Tire is not one of them.

OK...........Uh.......I just threw out the Fat Tire, and opened up an OB, which I brought back with me from Korea.

That's more like it. Early thoughts on if you are coming back to Korea? We will be in the same situation in January and just kinda curious on your decision process for coming back to Korea. I mean, are you playing with the idea of coming back because you don't want to dive back into life back home, or are you looking to save money? I guess it would be interesting to see how the thought process goes for someone who is AT home and teeter tottering with the idea of coming back. Thanks for any insight. By the way, I will be on a Sierra Nevada binge for at least a week when we return to California.

Sierra Nevada.............drool, slobber.

Well........................honestly?

There was a teaching program I was looking into here in the U.S., called TeachforAmerica.com. Great opportunity, andy they provide different locations in the U.S. (even the Aloha State). But, despite my experience and motivation, they had to turn me down.......because my GPA from college is a 2.42....and they require a 2.5. So, that was a major set back.

I admit....it is hard to let go of the expat life. Yeah, Korea is the pits in some ways, but it is a gate to other places. And, I really do enjoy teaching E.S.L. to kids.

So, that is where I am at at the moment.

O.K., dmbfan.....Just the fact that you're drinking a crappy Korean beer outside of Korea means that you're burned out and you needed a break. Laughing . I've been in Korea for 2 years and I'm going home to great Canadian beer in 3 weeks. My one question is.....why Korea again? Why not consider teaching in another Asian country? (Japan or Taiwan?)

TFA is not the only way to teach or become a teacher in the US.

Wow! good luck. I'm looking at possibly going to Japan next year, as well. Please update the thread if you get a breakthrough here. I'd be interested to hear about it.

Let us know how that goes. We want to work in Japan next year but have read that it is rather difficult to land a good job. We have some friends that just moved there so we will see what kind of info they can give us in the next few months. If you don't mind me asking, how is the pay from your Japan offer as opposed to Korea. Not the amount but how competitive is Japan in compensation. I know they don't pay as much and you have to pay for your flight.

dmbfan: It's Korea. It's never going to change, or at least not anytime soon.

Considering your past experience, I think you'll regret coming back to Korea...it will come rushing back to you the week you get off the plane.

I've you got an MA, try a Uni job. If you prefer teaching middle-schoolers or elementary students, try a job in Chungchongnam-do. Many people here are re-signing due to friendly co-workers and long vacations. The pay is a bit higher than other provinces, too.

It's because there are plenty of other people who don't do their research and don't have your experience. They are easier to place so why should a recruiter waste time with you when there are so many money-makers lined up?

You already tried korea twice, both time you were not happy and it was not hakwon, I believe both time it was public school.
Now you try 3rd time ???
There is no magic there, you will find youself unhappy again.
To some people finding happiness is never easy and never hold one job too long, always moving around.....
You never said one positive thing about korea/korean on you posts, but try to come back 3rd time ?????
After that much insult korea/korean, try to come back korea again ???

You usually insult the United States and white people. Why, then, do you live in America?
