Yeah,
I am building my first PC and I have a few questions,
First, my case fan power thing had four recepticles but there are only three pins on my motherboard. And there are no markings on the power cord. Does it matter which side I favor?
Secondly, I have two hard drives and one CD-ROM. Do i set one hard drive to master and the second hard drive and CD-ROM to slave? And how would I do that?
Thirdly, the power cord to my case fan has another power outlet attached to it. Can I hook something up (is the connection parallel) or not (power connectors are serial)?
Thanks for the help. |

The only leads that connect directly from the PSU to the mainboard are the power mass (the big rectangle) and a CPU power lead (4 wires, typically yellow and black in a square arrangement.) All other power is wired right into the devices...HDD, CDROM, etc. The motherboard power connectors are for component fans; CPU, case (if you have the smaller, 3-pin connector...many case fans have PSU molex attatchments), etc.
Master and slave...gone with SATA, I believe.
I wouldn't use the fan lead to split power. you can buy a splitter cable if you need. Actually, I am not 100% sure what you mean, but I think you mean there is an extra molex connector coming out from the case fan. If that is the case, I wouldn't use it to split power (chaining). As I said, you can buy splitters to further divide one of your PSU cables into 2 if you need more leads than the 4 from the PSU. |
