Has anybody ever air-freighted there pet to Korea?
Obviously, I know it's possible as there are companies that specialize in this. So, any information on such a company, as well as any info regarding cost, concerns and/or complications would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
If it's relevant - it's a cat, and it's shots are current. |

I sent my pooch either Korean Air Cargo or Air Canada Cargo. I don't remember which as it was actually my mom that sent him after he recovered from surgery for eating a sock.
It cost $800 CDN to send from Toronto to Incheon. Upon arrival at Incheon, you may have to pay some importing fee. Not sure how much, as mine was waved because my dog was born in Korea, then taken to Canada, makes him a Korean citizen. Wonder if I can get an F-4?
But, when I brought him home on the plane while I was a passenger, Incheon to Toronto, it cost 300,000 won. |

$800!! Good god! I hope your "pooch" got a seat in the cabin and free drinks. Even $300 on the flight seems a little steep.
Unfortuantely I'm from Florida and neither of those airlines depart from any airport near my city. Thanks for the info though.
I contacted some pet shipping companies but have yet to recieve a quote.
Did you happen check any of these companies before you bought your dog a regular economy ticket? |

It is far cheaper to fly WITH your dog/cat than to send the dog/cat on a flight without you. With you, however, the dog/cat will count as one of your "free" checked luggage pieces...but you will still have to pay the pet fee on top of that.
Taking your dog/cat in the cabin is cheaper than having the dog/cat fly cargo, but he/she must be small enough to fit under the seat in front of you and fewer and fewer flights are allowing even this. You must make arrangements as far in advance as possible as there is a limit of how many pets are permitted per cabin. I think it's two, but it could be only one.
Flying cargo is likely not an option this time of year anyway due to the heat. I think that 80 degrees at the point of departure AND destination is the cut off. |

yeah, flying cargo at this time of the year would be difficult. it's just too hot. i came over 5 weeks ago with my puppy and planned to send him cargo since i'm not sure how he'd react being in cabin, but delta just wouldn't let me, especially since he's snub-nosed (boston terrier). i'm sure other carriers have similar weather guidelines.
i had no other choice, so i paid 50 bucks at check in to get him on the plane with me, he was quiet the entire way, and that was that. i did have to visit the vet before coming, of course, and paid $250 for a international health cert. |

JEESH! Rates must have really gone up! Last time I paid only $30 and I only got it for peace of mind since Korea didn't require it. Neither did the States. All either country wanted was the rabies certificate and America never even checked that. Granted, last time my dog flew internationally was back in 2002, so maybe that has something to do with it. |

Uhm, of course it is. Unfortunately, I'm already in Korea and my cat is back in the states. So at this point that isn't really on option. Other than convincing a friend to fly out here and take the kitty on the plane with him/her, which isn't likely, I'm gonna have to send it by air cargo, I guess.
Thanks for the info on heat restrictions. Makes sense. Perhaps I can convince the authorities it's a Florida cat and 80 degrees ain't shi t.
From my understanding, all they need is a current rabies shot. I can probably look this up somewhere or contact the Korean Quarantine "office." What I'm really looking for is some information from people who used a pet transport company. But thanks for all the other helpful info too |

Yeah, $800 was steep, I was all set to bring him with me on the flight when I came over the pond, but Pooch had to have an emergency operation to remove a sock from his stomach. The surgery cost $3000. So another $800 just seemed to keep the bad luck going.
You are correct about the rabies being the only mandated shot needed. |
