I apologize for coming out of the appropriate sticky, but since my question was buried on page 7 and no one had responded in a few days, I took it upon myself to start a new thread that will most likely get deleted -- but I will probably get the answer for which I was looking.

Ok, I am trying to do some long-range planning...assuming an F-type visa -- the spouse one, whichever that is -- and assuming that I register as a tutor or show myself at immigration or register at the tax office and/or do all of the things needed to be above-board, legit, totally legally teaching private lessons...what kind of rates do folks get?

I have seen rates in the private thread from 20k to 65k per hour -- is this per hour per student (so 4 kids in the same class would be 80k to 260k per hour)? Or are these rates the per hour rate that the pair/trio/quartet/whatever pays? (as in, 4 kids pay 15k each for 60k total for the hour?)

If you are willing to let me know the rates you legally receive via PM, I would really really appreciate it...like I said, planning for the (somewhat distant) future. I'm not trying to get a "mine is bigger" thread going, just want to have some realistic numbers to crunch with the future-mrs.

I know it is a personal matter, but the internet is a place to share personal information with absolute or near absolute strangers! As a bonus, if you want to do a "I showed you mine, you show me yours" deal, I will tell you my current legal, legit gig to which I would be comparing legal, spouse-visa tutoring...or if you dun care about that, I will answer a personal question of your choice via PM. I thought it was answered before page 6, but there area number of factors to consider when trying to set a price: the teacher's schedule, ability of students, level of material being taught, proximity, how often the class is meeting, etc.

I think most teachers charge 30-60k/hr for one student, and add 10k for each additional student. If the class is meeting quite often then you might consider a slightly lower rate. If you're teaching SAT or TOEFL then the price should be at least 50K, possibly up to 100K according to other posts that I've read.

The thing I seem to be confused about is whether folks are charging per class (total) or per student. I get that most folks get about 30k-60k an hour for a single student, but I am unclear as to how much that figure jumps if you have 4 at the same time in a small class. Mathematically speaking, it should be 120k-240k per hour, and yet most folks I have heard from/read about charge about 60-80k for a 4-kid class (I think).

I understand that area, reputation, etc are all a factor, which is why I was hoping to get some real numbers from real people who are really doing it (such as the folks that PM'ed me). Like I said, sorry to bother folks, and thank you very much to everyone that took some time to reply in any way, shape, or form!
