I'm coming from California to work in Korea (about an hour out of Seoul) for possibly two years.
I have recently bought a car here in the states that I really don't want to part with and shouldn't just leave sitting while I'm away but I'm wondering if it is truly worth it to have it shipped to Korea.
Has anyone ever done this? It's nothing special... just an 05 Dodge Neon... but it's in immaculate condition and I'll kind of be out in the country (Namyangju- away from downtown) and I'd really like to have it with me there.
Any advice or input? If anyone has done this before, I'd love to know what you think. I have no idea what kind of auto registration and insurance requirements I'll be up against when I get there. |

| Not sure exactly, but the import duties on foreign cars are high. Why not just use the money you'd spend importing it to buy a small Korean car second hand and then recoup some of the money selling it off when you leave? |

It won't stay that way if you bring it here and park it in any parking lot. Mine has all sorts of dings and scratches from people opening their car doors against mine...and insisting that it is better to back into a parking space than backing out into the street...and nudging my car in their failed effort to 'save time'. |
