Hello everyone,

I'm currently finishing my masters in TESL/TEFL (with an additional two years experience teaching at the IEP at my university) and am interested in knowing what kind of salary I might expect if I were to secure a position at a Korean university. I did try to do a search, but I came up with heaps of unrelated results.

Actually, money normally wouldn't be such an issue if it weren't for the student loans I'll be paying on once I graduate.

Anyway, ballpark figures and general info is fine. I'm just starting my investigation, and am wanting a realistic feel for what is possible.

Thanks!

Maybe 2.2 million + housing. That's just a guesstimate. It all depends on the uni. Some might offer "key money" to put down on a place (you give it back when you leave). Some might give you a housing allowance of 300,000 won or so. Some don't offer housing.

Generally speaking, Seoul is very expensive for housing. Be careful of the "outsourcing jobs". They may look sweet, but they aren't. Best of luck to you.

I've seen stuff like 1.5 million with 6 months vacation. Kind of leaves you scratching your head.

Yes, some contracts are actually pretty scary.

You might get 100,000 won per month more than a person with a bachelors.
