All these threads about best airports and best airlines.
How about those of you like me who hate flying and hate airports?
I don't give a damn about the crappy shrimp salad X airline serves or the fact that Y airline attendants can fake a smile a few hours longer. I could care less if airport Q has good duty-free shopping or airport Z has showers I'll never use anyways.
Airports and airlines are one blur to me. A temporary purgatory, an empty time vacuum between Point A and Point B. I derive no other pleasure from flying than knowing that I'll be arriving in my destination soon enough. The best airports and airlines are the onest that pass me through this time vacuum as efficiently and quickly as possible.
If time is not important, I'll take a train ride or even a bus ride to an airplane anyday. |

I love flying, but hate the check in lines, security, boarding, and anything else that makes me nervous such as hurrying to make a connecting flight and ending up in the wrong terminal. It would be ultimate flying to go on a decked out private jet set up for a private party in the sky.

I enjoy the overall travel experience but view airplanes and airports as just a necessary evil. A airplane is no more exciting to me than a bus with wings. I not sure when it was decided that we all wanted shopping malls inside our airports, but I dont remember getting a vote.
I just want to be processed through and be on my way. |

Yep, my sentiments exactly. I overstated my case in the OP. I enjoy the travel experience, I just view the airplane/airport thing as a necessary evil.
Basically I see cars/busses/trains as a good way to "travel" -- it's the change of scenery and getting a real feel for where you are or where you're going -- airplanes on the other hand are an efficient way of getting from one place to another. |

I love to travel, but I usually get bored on planes due to the crappy in-flight entertainment...movies I've already seen or don't care to see. On long flights, I just sleep away the flight. |

| I think my outlook on flying would change dramatically if I were able to go First Class. As it stands, flying sucks. |

I used to love flying but it has become unpleasant. I'm on the tall side, so legroom is an issue. I hate being wedged in and at the mercy of the bozo in the seat in front of me. There's also the issue of Lingering Food Smells. When the FAs prepare meals, the stench remains in the cabin long after the food has been served. It seeps into my clothes, and I have to get them laundered. I always bring a book or two and sometimes my laptop, so I'm not at the mercy of an IFE system that may or may not be working. But the deal-breaker for me is the asinine liquid ban. I like to drink a lot of water on flights, but ever since the LAG bans took effect, I'm dehydrated after flights of more than a couple of hours.
First class is better. Even upgraded economy (United has this, and a couple of others) is a huge improvement over cattle class. |

| First class may be better, but for the price, it isn't THAT much better. I'm short anyways, so the leg room isn't that big a deal. Also, it's still radiated plane food that gets served in first class. |

trust me, a few hours in HKG or SIN is a lot more comfortable than a few hours in Casablanca's airport. At least the former two have decent restaurants and things to keep you occuppied while you wait during your flight.
And airlines? I kinda agree with you if you're just refering to first-world airlines (and I include Malaysia and Korea as 1st world) then yes, you have a point. But throw in airlines like Egypt Air and Biman Bangladesh? No way.
Lastly, bus rides over 10 hours are hell. I hate them. No wy I'd choose them over a flight (luxury buses excluded, but then they aren't much cheaper than flying now). |

Good points here. Favourite airport for starting and finishing your journey and favourite airport -- or should i say least-hated -- for being stuck in during a transfer are two different categories. |

i love flying!!
its so exciting being in the airport and especially flying somewhere internationally....
1. duty free
2. possibility of seeing someone famous
3. meeting new people
4. the take off and landing
5. having your own screen
sometimes the flight is boring...i flew from bangkok to auckland and it was a boring flight despite the many games of blackjack i played and the movies i kept starting and never finishing (part of the boredom was the doubling back to thailand to get a cheaper flight when to fly direct from korea would have shaved 8 hours of the travel time)
on the whole i like it...especially when you fly a new airline and you have heaps of leg room or they let you upgrade your seat....i did that with thai and was just behind business class with a row to myself and ahhhhhh leg room ( im 5'9 and find asian airlines dont have as much leg room as western airlines) |
