Anybody out there who attended? Was it a wonderful life-altering event? Did group showers & tiny sweltering cubbyholes re-affirm your faith in humanity? At the very least, can we find out how many actually attended? I'm betting less than 100....

The wage increase for level one EPIKS starts this month. 2,300,000 won per month if you live out of a couple of major cities.

Only curious, what is the EPIK program paying these days. I know there are three levels, back in 97' before the crash, I was paid 1.6 for level one, and when I re-signed in 98' it went up to 2.0 for level one. I am curious, for I think the university system could take a hint from what the government is paying.

Level ones get 2.2/month. All EPIKs who live out in the boonies now get an extra 100,000/mo. Wow!

The level one position as of this month will pay 2.3 million won for most. Level two and three however aren't getting any direct wage increase but will get 100,000 won extra if living in the country. Exchange rates on the won but have taken everything however for most.

Oh Mosley I thought that this was an EPIK thread. No one seems to be coming up with an answer on your question. I too would be interested to know how many they got into the program this year.

Hello Very Happy

I have just started work through EPIK and to so far so good. The orientation (which is more of disorientation) was long and drawn out but my appartment and schools are so far really good.

This year EPIK wanted 200 new teachers, but at the orientation there were 103!!

Cheers

I've been on the lookout for Mody Ba here & on the Job Discussion side where he posts under a different moniker. He's been a no-show. I hope he hasn't been put off by those who persecute you for speaking the truth, which is what Mody Ba did 99% of the time. So, imagine this: EPIK increases the number of newbies from last year by 26 & it's still not even close to a mere 200! JET? 1000 newbies w/ 5000 original applicants rejected! The defense rests....

...yeah, but the numbers don't really mean much if you compare it to someones experience. So far I have had a good experience but its early doors yet, but it looks hopefull.

Saying that, knowing my luck I probably won't get paid for about three months or something!!!!

Very Happy

You mean it was something other than "left, right" or "right, left?" Laughing

I`d like to ask this to newbies: did orientation offer ANY advice/info about teacher training? And(a bit off-topic) for EPIK vets: what`s this horsehockey one hears about W187,000/mo. for "pension" payments?!!!

What I meant by "teacher training" was info/advice on teaching Korean teachers-such an important duty but no guidance at all. For the pension scheme, it seems we pay half the required contributions. Of course, unlike JET we never get clear instructions on all this lot....
