I have a textbook that has 1 chapter devoted to a discussion of Taipei 101, the world's tallest building. At the end of the chapter, it claims that "in 2008, the tallest building will be in Seoul".
I haven't seen any construction around Seoul that looks like it will result in the world's tallest building. What is that all about? |

Maybe they're planning on kidnapping the building and installing it here somewhere.
Really I have no idea. What level is this textbook? Elementary, middle, high? |

If it's the same one I read about a few weeks ago in some news article, it's supposed to be near the Yongsan station, towards the river. They want it to be the centerpiece of a revitalized business area. |

The plan was to have the tallest building in Seoul , but I don't think it's gonna happen. If it does, the record won't last long....

They may not ever get the tallest building built here in Seoul, but at least they can claim that a Korean company is building the tallest building in the world. See Burj Dubai. I think that is a pretty cool looking building, wouldn't mind taking a trip to see it when it is done. |

True, Samsung is the contractor. And I've met many Koreans who like to spout this fact with pride.
But the architects and building engineers are American. Also, in classic Korean style, labor is being done by foreign immigrant workers, namely 4,000 Indian workers. OF COURSE, these guys are being paid a few dollars a day (to work around the clock sometimes).
Alleging mistreatment by company officials (no surprise there right), the workers protested, and they were threatened with lawsuits. This makes sense to me Instead, of paying them an extra buck an hour, pay a bunch of lawyers to sue them.
