Why do you post here? What are your posting habits? I guess I'm opinionated and fool myself into thinking that others will actually think about what I've got to say (ha!). I'm on here pretty much whenever I'm on the computer, checking to see if there are any new posts, complaints, job developments...but I can stop anytime I want to...honest.

I don't think so. Just bored.
Let's see, 610 posts. Are you?
Can you quit?
I'll make you a dare: Can you stop posting for four days?
I'll do it if you do.
A deal?
Anyone else want to give it a try? |

I'm somewhat addicted. My morning routine consists of checking my email then Facebook then the news and finally Dave's. I've been known to be late for school/work due to this site.
As far as my posting habits go, I don't post often and usually only on threads regarding studying Korean. |

I do it for the emotions it provokes. The conflict, the anger, the general bad vibes and negative energy. I love it like a junkie loves his fix. Emotions are the most addictive chemicals in the world. Ask drama queens and guys who like to get into fights.
I thought I was out. I've been busy as hell the last 6 months. I thought I had beat the habit. But now that I have some free time, I find myself back at it full force. I really don't think its healthy and I'm a little ashamed I engage in it, but what can you do? |

Yes, I'm an addict. I used to be over at the Job Discussion forum before coming to Korea, so I've been on Dave's since 2004. There was a time where I didn't post anything for a couple of months, but I picked the habit back up. Geez...I quit smoking a year ago, so I think I'm up to the challenge.
Ok, Gatsby--four days without a post. It's best to try to kick bad habits when you've got a buddy. I'm not making any promises about browsing though...not yet, anyway!
I'd also challenge anyone who thinks they may have a problem to stop posting for the next few days. The results might be revealing. |

I should have added that it was raining. But it stopped.
A good time to go outside and smell the flowers, or something.
Yeah, you're on.
Looks like that would take it through Aug. 18, 2:30 p.m., DST, Dave's Standard Time.
Be seeing you.
ps: the way I see it, when you're writing posts about kitty litter, maybe you have a problem. Me that is. |

Eh....I check in outta boredom and interest. I definitely don't use this for any heated discussion or to prove any point. Besides, what's the point? It's not like anyone ever caves in and says, "Ah, I didn't see like that...". People take a stance and fight tooth'n nail to keep it, right or wrong. Or it's evah gonna be published. Inna a few days it's gonna be buried an forgotten in the depths of Dave's thread graves. I much rather post just to entertain myself (introvert that I am) like the E.T.-pullmyfinger-fart-joke. Can you just imagine aliens having to respond in kind? The new kimchi_pizza(trademark, TM) inter-galaxyial expression? No more of that funky Vulcan "live long and procreate" nonsense. Didn't anyone laugh at that? Aiisssshh.....
I loiter just for the sake of entertainment or slight drunkness like now. |

I've been reading the board since 2000, but never when I was in Korea the first time (1996-1998). back then you had to wait in line to use the internet at the only internet cafe near Kwanghwamun, after riding a train or a bus and walking 10 miles in the snow/rain/heat to reach said cafe.
I swear it's twue. |

OK. I'm back. It's been 4 days, more or less.
That was easier than I thought. |

I'm addicted to message boards and this one has the most updates, plus the freakiest posters, and the most entertaining flame wars. And keep in mind on one of my other sites, we just banned a guy who signed up under the name "SkinheadCubLookingForBear." Yes, this site is still the biggest freak show. |

I'm addicted now. I have this pile of books to read but instead I'm trying to keep up with the various posts. |

Gahh! I have to admire your honesty, though. Your reason may sound evil to some, but wait till they hear MY initial reason for reading and joining Dave's.
It was maybe a month or so before my "Joined" date when I stumbled upon the "Prisoners of Wonderland" saga somewhere on the Net. A riveting page-turner of woe, a reality-TV-esque tale of three little white lambs thrown to the Korean hagwon wolves. I'm not a teacher, but you really don't have to be to find their story appalling, exasperating, intriguing, morbidly entertaining and addictive. All the more so for being real and only too credible. One of those "And I thought *I* had horrible Korean bosses!" cold slaps in the face. By God, working for the locals was never supposed to be THAT fucking harrowing!
So there I was, hooked like a junkie and craving more real-life waegook drama, pain & suffering. I found there a link to this place, the ESL Cafe, and I've thoroughly enjoyed myself ever since. I suppose it's a bit "misery loves company", a bit Nelson-esque "Ha ha!", and I expect I'll go to Hell for this. But what can you do? |
