|
|
My parents start getting anxious if I go more than a week without calling them, so we have a routine where I call them every Sunday. The only thing is, we never spoke that much when I was back home, so we don't usually have a lot to talk about.
I suggested that I only call once a month since the "call quality" would be better. I'm not sure it's even normal to call home so often anyway...is it? |

I call my grandmother and sister about once every 6-7. |

I love my folks to death and email frequently, but I only call them about once a month. They have only called me once in all the years I have been away from home, and that is because I growled via email at them on Christmas.
I would find it very weird to talk to my family more often. My other sister only calls about once every 6 months.
I agree with you, Jizzo. Your folks will cope. |

I went a whole year without calling home. I figure email is just so much handier, as I can't think of a polite way to say 'I might call home more often if you didn't ask so many bloody stupid questions'. As soon as I got home last month on the ride back from the airport a whole year's worth of stupid questions starting spilling out.
'Oh you have a credit card in Korea? What do you use to pay for things?'
'What do you use in Canada? Both cash and credit cards? Well duh, that's what most people do in Korea, too'.
I think part of the problem is that everyone back home finds Korea so uninteresting that they can only think of pointless conversation topics re: your personal life. |

Once a week for me. My dad would phone me on the weekend. But now my son was born this week he has phoned me everyday. Just the same questions with the same answers. But if it makes my parents fell better I don't mind. |

Almost never...it is so strange when I call, I think they'd think an emergency happened.
Usually I just email a couple times a month. |

Email my Dad about once/twice a week on average. Get a package every month or so. Email my sisters and their kids for birthdays and such. Haven't actually spoken to any of them since the last trip home (2005); hadn't spoken to them more than a dozen times in the 5 years before that and not more than 4 times a year the four years before that. We're all real close but have always lived by the 'no news is good news' creed plus everyone is so busy we'd never get anyone home. |

Sounds like you are a mama's boy
I call my mom once every 2-3 months.
She always asks me if I did put make up on my face and telling me not to forget make up, according to her if I don't put make up I look like a sick person because I have pale white skin.
She also tell me to drink a cup of cold water every morning as soon as get up, according to her that can be very good for digestive system.
She always asks me if I am attending church service every Sunday and I always say " Yes, Yes, of course ", but I didn't attend church service for last 2 years.
Oh, last call she told me not to eat the skin of chicken because that's not good for my health
Now you can understand why I call her once every 3-4 months

I talk to my folks on Skype every morning. I enjoy talking with them. They are 82 y.o., so I like to spend as much time with them as possible. |

I don't enjoy phone conversations and it shows.
Every 2 weeks or so. Sometimes longer. |
