Okay, I meant blackberry, but you know what I mean.

I guess since I'm about to start having kids, I'd like to improve my methods of ignoring them. I think being constantly connected to email would be a good way to start. Smile

Actually, I might be stuck leaving work early (starting to have blood pressure issues) or trying to negotiate reduced hours. If I can demonstrate that even with reduced hours, I'm always "available", I might be able to swing it.

No dice?

Yes it is. Telus (a Canadian telecom) offers support. Unless they withdrew their investment, which wouldn't surprise me much.

Put it off as long as you can.

Do you have a computer with internet at home? That should be enough. Do you need VPN to connect to their network? Get that, too.

Once they get you on the Blackberry they will never leave you alone, believe me.

Fortunately, most of the points I'm needed on are super-quick. B2B marketing strategy with a bit of game theory - ie: if they say this, what should we say? I interject, and we all go on our merry ways. In actuality, the REAL work I do is a small fraction of my day, the trick is being available in a timely manner to help get and satisfy the client. I could be anywhere...

I'd love to train them all to want my ideas over my time. Time means minimum 8:30 to 6:30 at my desk, M-F. Screw that - especially with a kid on the way. I think a crackberry would be the best way to go. I don't want to be tied to a computer at home when I'm away from work - I think the park would be just as good.

What is blackberry? Is it some sort of PDA? then just turn it off when you don't want to be contacted.

Blackberry phones and service are offered in Korea through KT.

http://rim.com/news/press/2006/pr-30_05_2006-01.shtml

Its the 7100i model, a half full keyboard style phone, which isn't like the conventional blackberries you probably see in the States or Europe.

However, the 8707 blackberry DOES work in Korea and Japan, but i believe it can only be used via roaming. My boss had a 8707h specifically for when he went on trips to Japan and Korea - and it worked flawlessly. Both Sprint and Cingular have roaming agreements with Korean cell companies (dont' think Verizon does). The 8707 is the ONLY full keyboard blackberry that is 3G compliant, working on UMTS 2100 mhz frequency, which is one of the frequencies used in Korea and Japan- IE: its the only full size blackberry that will work in Korea/Japan.

See info here:
http://news.softpedia.com/news/SmarTone-Vodafone-and-RIM-Launch-the-BlackBerry-8707v-26800.shtml

However, I am not sure if you can activate an 8707 in Korea and use it as your main phone (IE: use it NON roaming). You could try KT, since they offer the 7100, but I'm not sure if they will allow it. Plus, 8707 models (think there are 3 versions, the 8707g/h/v) are rare and hard to come by. They are quite old now, especially considering RIM has released 3 major phones after the 8700 series, namely the 8300, 8800 and the 8100 - all of which are CDMA (not WCDMA or 3G version) or GPS focused (Verizon's 8830 is both CDMA and GPS capable).

If you figure out how to get an 8707 activated here, please let me know - I would sign up in a second.

I'm not completely sure - you should check with KT.

The THEY in question is RIM - not KT. The guy I spoke with at KT yesterday is quite annoyed that they can't have newer models with memory expansion capability, etc. It's like we're some afterthought.

I'm now thinking that if I can get insta-mail pretty much anywhere via wireless networks, I'll go for a pocketpc and winCE. Anyone have success with that?

Or if the models avail were to increase, yes, crackberry all the way.

This doesn't make sense to me. Buy an 8707 on ebay or in Japan, and bring it over here. Then go to KT and try and link it to an account (activate an account). Yes, maybe RIM has not been very responsive in terms of sending over new models to Korea - but honestly, they only have 1 3g phone right now - the 8707.

So theoretically, if you bring one over to Korea - the KT guy would have no reason to NOT activate it....but I heard this may be a problem.

Other workaround would be to get a blackberry 7100i (which is the one that KT offers), then try and change it with the 8707 after activation.

You seem to know what you're talking about - maybe you'll have more success than me if you ask the guy directly. His email address is [email protected]. He was pretty prompt in getting back to me, but quite nervous on the phone (english-wise).

Please do check it out and let us know - I'm strictly at the "crackberry for beginners" stage of inquiries. You'd be my hero if I could get crackberry type email with a gadget I could lurve.

I'm not, however, ready to subscribe to an overseas service and use it in a "roaming capacity" here. That would be scary expensive, I'm sure...

Sure, I'll shoot him an email and see what I can dig up. I know, Blackberry here would be SOOOOO awesome. I am so much more productive with a blackberry...i don't forget appointments, tasks, text and email back quicker..the list goes on.

Does this guy work for KT or is he a phone rep or something? m0130.com?

I went through the KT phone system on Tuesday for about half an hour to find a KT-Powertel "english speaking person" and when I got through to him it was clear that he'd be more efficient by email.... he was just waaay too jittery on the phone. He works for KT Powertel. That's just the email address he gave me.

If you don't get an answer PM me and I'll forward you the email I got from him... He was pretty prompt though, half an hour getting back to me. I could probably dig up the phone number again if I cleaned my desk.
