Mosquito repellent, although you will miss the worst of it. Also, get a Hep B vaccination before you come and check with a doctor for any additional jabs.
Let's see...any home comforts. Depends where you come from. English people may miss things like good alcohol, salt'n vinegar crips, gravy etc. Medicines are always useful. Basically, anything you think you might need that's also quite light is worth bringing. |

You can get pretty much everything here. If you have a certain brand of some thing that you particularly like, bring some. I like "natural" toothpaste, but can't get find it here. There is plenty of toothpaste here, just not the one I particularly like.
Things like that. |

Ah, yep, toothpaste. If you're outside of Seoul, it might be a good idea to bring some toothpaste. Korean toothpaste doesn't seem to be very effective, in my opinion, and so I prefer to stick to Colgate Total. Listerine is useful, also. You can get them both here, but not everywhere and it'll be relatively expensive compared to back home. |

You can get good toothpaste here, but the Listerine is quite expensive. You don't need anything else really but I would strongly suggest you get a bottle of TUMS. You can get the colored tablet ones that last two or three years and it is very light. That way you can carry it around with you even to school if your stomach can't adjust right away to Korean food.

Ask yourself this question: If they don't have X in Korea, can I live for a year without it? If the answer is "yes", don't bring it. If the answer is "absolutely not", bring it! This includes "comfort foods", personal hygene products, cosmetics, bedding (including pillows and sheets...although you can get western-style ones at COSTCO), OTC and prescription medication (Nyquil, cold meds, tums, pepto bismol, BC pills etc) and anything else you just couldn't live without for a year.
Also, if you have family or friends who would be willing to ship things to you (remembering that postage to SK is pretty expensive!), you can cross a lot of the "maybe" things off your list of what to bring. |
