Hi.

I'm looking for some suggestions/advice on what to do/see for a few days in HK. I'm planning on going first week of October.

Never really had a holiday before so not sure what I'm going to do!

Any advice on places to stay/eat/shop would be greatly appreciated. I'm not wanting to spend a fortune, but slumming it isn't an option either!!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Start here: http://wikitravel.org/en/Hong_Kong#See

The view from Victoria Peak is not to be missed. I also liked Stanley & the view of Repulse Bay enroute, from the top deck of the double decker bus front window. A ride in a boat at Aberdeen & the Po Lin Monastery and the giant Buddha (Tien Tan Buddha Statue) on Ngong Ping were some personal favourites. The Noble Hostel in Causeway Bay was great when I stayed there in 2004.
Cheaper accomodation is in Kowloon (Chungking & Mirador Mansions).

Take the ferry to Macau and gamble in the casinos.

1. Take the tram up to Victoria Peak. Awesome experience. The buildings look as if they are leaning on a 45 degree angle. It's like being in a movie. The view at the top is breathtaking and there are good restaurants and shops up there as well. I ate at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. and I had a nice view. The texas cajun chicken sandwich and coleslaw/fries I had were so delicious.

2. Go to Repulse Bay and Stanley. The market at Stanley was a little too touristy though...cheesy like Itaewon...but the view on the pier was great and there are some good restaurants and Murray House there. Plus, you can cross the street to go to Stanley beach.

3. Go over to the Soho and Lan Kwai Fong area. There are many bars, clubs and restaurants there. Although, I was there on weeknights, so mostly white haired people were in the bars, so I didn't bother with the bars.

4. Go shopping in Causeway Bay area and Times Square in Causeway Bay.

5. Take a ferry down to Macau for lovely sightseeing, not just casinos.

6. Go shopping in Central.

7. Go to Victoria Park in Causeway Bay.

8. Go over to Kowloon for some shopping/eating.

I didn't bother with Disneyland although I love Disney because it is way out on Lantau Island and quite small I heard. I'll save Disneyland for Tokyo.
