|
|
We have this:
http://www.dynamic-korea.com/dokdo/dokdo_send.php Love of Dokdo!
http://www.koreaembassyusa.org/
Check out the International feast of Rock! mmmm, rock soup, barbequed rock, delicious. It's the "International" rock festival, yet it's classified as Korean wave.
I thought it was now "Korea Sparkiling", guess the embassy dudes are still behind.
Then we have to East Sea Propoganda. Koreans call the sea on the other side, the West Sea (so hea) , since The Korean Peninsula is the center of the universe, yet on the official Embassy map it's the Yellow Sea. Looks like deference to China, and up yours Japan. The usual story!
Then there is the Korean Embassy Website for Australia
http://www.mofat.go.kr/ee/ee_a001/ee_auau/ee_jpjp02.jsp
Immediately upon loading the page you get the Dokdo pop up!
Infantile, absoloutly infantile! |

Whenever Koreans mention Dokdo I always say, feigning confusion, "wait, I thought it was called 'Takeshima'?" |

It's real name is Laincourt Rocks. I told this to a Jap and Tawainese I was drinking with and they burst out laughing that its English name is rocks and not island. The Jap really, really thought that Koreans' fuss over Dokdo was hilarious, and they couldn't believe that every day Dokdo makes the weather forcast even though no one watching the weather forcast will be going to Dokdo.
I was re-writing a dialogue with my students on the blackboard and the students decided that the characters in the dialogue would be going to Dokdo. I told them 'in English Dokdo is Laincourt Rocks' and wrote that on the board instead. |

Leaders of Korea and Japan should fight on the next UFC fight card. I think it's UFC 74 "Respect." The winner gets Dokdo and there's no more fucking and moaning. |

I'm sure I'm not the first one to suggest this, but why not just settle it the Korean way... rock-scissors-paper? |

Yu_Bum_suk: You might want to actually teach them the correct name for Dokdo in English (unless you genuinely made the typo twice...) - no harsh intent meant on my part, just pointing it out: LIANcourt Rocks

Neither side will give in for the next hundred years. Maybe this can be settled in a court of law in a country both countries agree on. Don't know if this could happen though. It would make for an extremely interesting legal case. |

not only do we have the falklands/malvinas in the argentinian weather forecast- but antarctica too. i always love how both chile and argentina claim a big slice of it on all of their maps. |

there are many countries that have territorial disputes. I don't know why you folks think korea is in the wrong here. When the japanese colonized korea one of the first territories they claimed was dokto. It was also the japanese who brought this issue up again recently when one of their cities claimed it.
Canada also has laid claim to a small island called Hans Island
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Island
"While Canada wanted to assert sovereignty of its northern territories for a variety of reasons unrelated to this dispute, Hans Island soon became the focus of the debate, and was presented as the main reason for this new Canadian policy.[citation needed]
The Arctic sea region has long been a subject of dispute. In this matter, Canada, Denmark, Russia and Norway all share a common interest because they regard parts of the Arctic seas as "national waters".
"'A new development came to light after Canadian Defence Minister Bill Graham visited the island on July 20, 2005. Peter Taks-Jensen, the head of the International Law department at Denmark's foreign ministry, said the following in an interview with Reuters on July 25 in response to the event:
'We consider Hans Island to be part of Danish territory and will therefore hand over a complaint about the Canadian minister's unannounced visit.[2]'
 Peter Taks-Jensen, Danish Foreign Office'"
has the korean defense minister visted dokto? lol. |

Huh made the visit along with the head of the Cultural Heritage Administration Yoo Hong-joon and other high-level officials. The head of police said that as long as the police guard the island day and night, and the public loves the island, Dokdo will not be lonely. The goal of the historic visit was to overview security issues in regards to stringent territorial precautions and the opening of the island to the public.
