I received 9 x 200g tins of spam in a very nicely presented box from my wonjong-nim today. My Korean coworkers got dried fish. Did anyone else get gifts for Chuseok?

Edit: Got some nice argyle dress socks from a student in three different colors.

Some really hard and chewy rice cakes (too bad, but it was a nice thought).

My pay six days early (!)

A drawing of an alien abduction from one of my students (I love it).

Two pairs of socks, too small, always too small.

On a good day this sort of gift symbolizes their pity for our apparently perpetual cold feet; on a bad day the socks mean to choke the life out of my toes one blood vessel at a time.

Today was a bad day.

I got enough meat to choke a tiger. Razz

A big styrofoam box full of frozen bulgalbi: Everyone in the school got one. A couple of months ago, we were purchased by the neighbouring hagwon so I think the management has been trying to put on a good impression. Rumour has it that each box of beef is worth in the neighbourhood of six-figures (well... six figures in Won).

This has been my happiest Chuseok yet. If I never post again, it's because I've developed the gout and my figures have fallen off.

Very Happy

I received a gift pack of two bottles of Korean plum "Liqueur". Actually wine, but eminently drinkable (I polished off one tonight). Avoid any Korean grape wine; I wouldn't shampoo my dog with that stuff. This wine contained flecks of which my students assured me were actual gold. "Very good for health", they say. That's all I need, more heavy metals in my body. Not to mention getting through the scan at the airport. Hey, it comes with the territory. Enjoy your Chusok.

I got spammed last year. Did ya get the cool gift bag that said SPAMtoo? Laughing ( I laughed so hard I thought I was gonna die, as a vegeatarian, someone giving me mystery meat is funny!) I thanked my director, took some pics for the folks in Canada who didn't believe me, then gave it away.

This year, I got a set of soaps, toothpaste and shampoo, more usefull.

I got a small bottle of ginseng drink. Very small. Very ginsengy.

I hate my school more and more with every passing day.
