|
|
There have been quite a few posts on the subject that I thought it might be time for one post to answer any questions one might have.
Lets start at home:
Personally, I use a Linksys 3G wireless hub with 4 ports, but you can always go to Youngsan, or Technomart and shop around for the one you feel is right for you.
Most wireless hubs are plug-and-play. That being said, always read the manual and go to the home page for any updates.
If you have more than one computer in your home, Microsoft has a very good guide on how to set up a wireless network at home.
You can see the guide here.
About town:
There will be people here who will tell you the places to go for free internet, and that is good if you decide to go there all the time.
I for one have stated that COEX is free, but have recently found out that it is not; I have Nespot and when Im in COEX it automatically logs me in, thus making me believe that it is free.
If you decide to pay, check out the KT page here for information, and pricing on Nespot.
Currently (November, 2006) I'm paying KW 15,000/ month.
Before, or after setting up your account youll need to download, save, and then install the Nespot connection manager here.
Note: Connection Manager 5.x.x. is the latest one. Also, when you install it you will see a pull down menu for languages. Choose the first one (영어 <English>).
Hope this helps. |

|
|
I was going to start a new thread for this question, but then I noticed this one ...
I plan to get a (Mac) notebook soon, mostly for the purpose of having wireless internet. I'm going home (to Canada) in the spring, and it is when I'm home that I will need the wireless internet access the most, as I may need to be operating my office on the go for a while.
My question is - is wi-fi the same here as it is in North America? Will a wi-fi notebook I buy here work back home?
Any insights?
p.s. please don't bother getting into the price difference between Mac in Korea and Mac in North America ... I know all about that |

I now have Vista Premium and want to add now that if you have Media Center you can share media on your computer with XBox 360 by downloading Media Center extender. |

Yes, a computer purchased from overseas can use a wifi AP or router here. Mine is that way.
There are a few extra channels allowed in Japan, but all cards are able to find those by default, I believe.
The first 11 channels are on the same frequency of every country in the world, as far as I know.
My wifi router is Korean, and my notebook is from the USA. |

Be aware that if you are using a router at home and you want to use bittorrent, you will need to do port fowarding.

newer bit torrent clients have the ability to do the port forwarding automatically for you using uPNP or NAT-PMP port forwarding. i know the latest version of utorrent does at least.
i'm more interested to hear anyone's experience with WiBro/WiMAX in Korea (specifically around Seoul).

My colleagues and I occupy 3 of the 4 apartments on the first floor of our apartment. Our free internet is rather slow so we are comtemplating getting wireless service. My question is, if one of us has the router in his apartment, how will that effect our ability to use the net/download? Does the thicKness of the walls effect download speed and if so, how much? Is this even a viabe option?Comments/suggestions? |
