|
|
I not what they call "tech savvy", so my question to those in the know is that I will be buying a laptop in the next couple of weeks, sounds strange but it will be my first home computer, and I wish to use it wirelessly around the apartment, what device(s) do I need? Is it a wireless router? and if so do I need a dongle fo r it to operate?
Thanks in advance, and please no laughing at my un-techyness |

A wireless router is what you need.
I am now onto my third in just over a year which is rather dissapointing. A Netgear, a Linksys and some cheap chinese one.
Easy to setup, don't forget to setup encyption when you have it up and running so your neighbours don't hop onto your bandwidth.
I paid 26k for my chinese one. It is meant to be an ok brand that has started taking off in Australia (something 1 in the the name) it cooked itself last night during a change of security settings and now won't work. Even with a hard reset.
To setup is pretty simple. If you are just using it for surfing, looking at porn and chatting with friends you don't need to do too much. If you are planning on downloading stuff via torrent or other P2P software then you will need to do a little tinkering but nothing much. |
