It will cost you a 200,000 Won deposit to get a cell in your own name. You get this back when you leave the country. You also have to pay an extra 50,000 Won registration fee. But, I got this split up over 5 months. I was lucky to get a free phone as they had a promotion on. But, you may have to buy a phone. Maybe 100,000 to 200,000 Won. My actual phone bill is cheap. My first bill for a month was only 15,000 Won (this included a small part of the 50,000 registration feee.) I had a lot of airtime and I received calls from North America (but my family paid that long distance as they called me). I even text messaged like a madman. So, it is cheap once you get beyond the one time payments. I just got a Korean co-teacher to go with me to the SK Telecom Office. But you can go to KT or Show, also. Bring something with your address, your banking info, and your passport. Hope that helps. |
