|
|
My wife, while sitting on a wonky office chair yesterday, wiped out quite dramatically and is now sporting quite the sizeable bruise on her back.
For the past half hour tonight she's had me rubbing this cold egg from the fridge (still in the shell) across the welt. Apparently that's what you commonly do in Asia -- a Naver search finds that protein or something-or-other from the egg is supposed to suck out the bad stuff from your bruise. And apparently it's bad to eat the egg afterward, as it's full of the badness.
This home remedy strikes me as a little suspect, yet I keep rolling the egg back and forth. Is it just the soothing coldness that helps, and if so wouldn't ice be better? Or is there something more to eggs that Eastern medicine has picked up on? A google on this topic doesn't shed much light, so I was wondering if anyone else has ever heard of the egg treatment... |

prolly is just soothing coldness, which I think is better than ice since egg is all round and nice, and not too cold.
maybe you can ask an eastern medicine doctor about it.. |

You can't suck out badness! The bruise is a sign that your body is dealing with it. Blood vessels and stuff.
Tell her to sleep next to a fan on 3.... |

Treatment for the injury is cold to reduce the bleeding (a bruise is just a contusion below the skin) and thereby reduce the swelling.
An ice pack may be uncomfortable but would also work. |

This sounds very similar to egg-cleansing Santeria rituals of the Caribbean. |

Don't Westerners put raw steaks on black eyes? (Example: Hagrid in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," after his half-brother beat him up?) |
