I have to move (again!) and I looked at a nice 20 pyeong apartment today.

Everything seems okay, except that there are only three electrical outlets, or three pairs of outlets, I should say.

There is a huge fridge, a huge air conditioner, and I'd have to move a washer in. Given that I run a lot of electrical equipment, is this a fire hazzard?

1, Depends on the rating of the circuit breakers, and how many individual RCB's there are. If you have 3 double oulets all on one 30A RCB, you would be in trouble, not so much from fire, hopefully depends what core cable they used, but from the breakers constantly tripping.

2. Depends on the load produced from each appliance and whether or not you are using them all at once.

3. If your washing M/C has no heating element and relies on a hot water feed for temperature washes then the load produced is not too high.

Without looking at the sys. it's hard to make a completely accurate judgement.

Hope this helps.

Then there is the gauge of the wires. In the US for our smaller size wire the code says the biggest breaker is 15A, but sometimes people replace it with a 20A breaker without rewiring with bigger wire. This is the situation that will cause a fire. If the breakers are the right size for the wires then they will just trip instead of overheating the wires.

Oh wait you did mention core cable.

So what I need is a circuit rated for 30 amps? Or two for 15 amps? I'm a little confused as to what I should find out.

Just plug everything in and see what happens. If it overloads the circuit the breaker will trip. Just unplug stuff until until it doesn't trip the breaker. All the wall mounted outlets are probably running off the same circuit so it realy doesn't matter how you spread it out.

I'd say you are fine as long as you use good extension cords and splitters.

I am not an electrician, but used to run a lot of lighting equipment for video shoots. I tripped plenty of circuits, but haven't burned anything down yet. Very Happy

Word.
The problem though is that I don't want to move in all of my stuff if it is going to trip breakers. So I really don't have a way to test it. It's a nice pad, if I don't see anything nicer, I guess I'll move in, but I feel uneasy about it.
