I have had friends in similar situations. Assuming your school is not dodgy it should not be a problem if you are up front about it.
depending on your employment situation that could of course (as you no doubt know) be a very large assumption.
good luck with it though. |

It would help tip the scales a bit if you suggest that you NOT be reimbursed for airfare until after you return from your sister's wedding.
I suspect that a school owner would be concerned that you are really just looking for a short term job - or that you might become dissatisfied with the job and use the trip as a runner.
Expect it to limit your possibilities. Given two equal candidates - which would you hire? |

Get your contract updated to include the break required in October 2008. It can be paid as all employees are entitled to 1 day off per month of their choosing (paid) or you can accumulate this.
Make sure you get it in your contract and that it is paid holiday. Oral contracts are not worth the paper their written on. |

My apologies - I didn't notice the 2008! Shouldn't be a problem at all. |

I don't think any of the other posters did either, and neither did I until now.
OP, if you're starting now, by the time your sister gets married, you will have already completed your contract and collected your severance and airfare. No one will even expect you to be in Korea by then unless you sign and extension to your contract.
Is there something special about your situation that you're not telling us? |

My situation is similar. I start on September for 1 year at a public school. If I extend for another year from next September am I likely to be able to negotiate that I can attend my sisters wedding in October 2008?
What would be the best way for me to negotiate, ie what should I offer? |

I know that I had an exceptionally nice PS, but mine let me go for 2 weeks with pay for my brother's wedding. It was during finals week though.
I am sure some schools will be nice, but others will be not so nice.
Another discussion I didn't add anything to! |
