So, I'm planning to spend some time studying in Korea (so I'll be on a student visa) however I also happen to be working on a web-based business which comes under self-employment. So this means, I have to declare my own earnings to pay tax in the UK.

Now, if I continue with this business idea as I move to Korea (having already set everything up) do I need to pay tax in the UK or tax in Korea? Confused If UK, at which point will I have to switch to paying tax in Korea instead, assuming long term living?

This is a stinky question.

Normally you pay the taxes in the country you work at.

it also depends on the agreements between UK and Korea

you should check that out.

If i were you i would not claim to "Live" in Korea, but that your official address is in UK. This way all taxes are done in UK.

Then again, being taxed under Korea law might be more advantageous

Technically my official address *would* be in the UK anyway, being just a student and all.. ? Income is wired directly to the bank here in UK. I haven't decided about that yet. I'm guessing I can't change that income to a Korean bank, although I can easily open one for student purposes. There is no official location of the company. It's all virtual, so unless you count the location of the server itself then my body itself is the location.

Why did you pick Korea to move to unless your business has some type of connection or you are gyopo? Of all places, why Korea?

If you say your Internet income is UK income while living in Korea wouldn't the Korean government be a little upset, i.e. send you to jail, if you don't pay Korean taxes? Also, won't it be a violation of you student visa?

Long term Student Visa still allows you to work part-time after a set period (and this definitely is part-time)

But this is perplexing. Being a purely comission based business, with payments wired directly to a UK bank account, how does this even affect anything in Korea? 아아 미치겠다..

Yeah, I met a Finnish guy in Shinchon, he was here studying Korean. I asked him why, he said because he wants to start a business here.

Christ, I know the weather in Finland sucks, but is it that bad?
