Cool pics.

In my opinion, not significant at all, since (a) there are 100 billion galaxies in the observed universe, (b) the observed universe is almost certainly a miniscule fraction of the whole.

The Sun will bcecome one of those red giants, btw. Don't worry though - not for 5.5 billion years. Laughing

Until proven otherwise, we are the only speck in the universe with intelligent life, ten thousand years of suffering and ecstasy amd every emotion in between.

I'd say that we are damned significant.

That's what your Korean boss would say after he doesn't pay you: "In the big scheme things, how significant is this, really?" Then you pull a gun out and say, "I guess it isn't. Thanks for enlightening me."

Boom!

so does that mean all the planets are growing in size?
or have they grown to full size now?

I mean the sun wasnt spawned into that size right? as well as the other planets etc..

You mean, until proven otherwise you think we are the only speck in the universe with intelligent life, which means we still might not be 'significant' in the sense that it means exclusive life forms.

It doesn't need to be proven to us that other life forms exist for them to exist. Your statement is solipsistic.

It's interesting. In all other cases, waiting for proof of "X exists" is the rational thing to do, but not here in my opinion. Other civilizations are a mathematical certainty. It's just a question of how near and how many.

Here, then, "X exists" is true without need for tangible evidence.

Everything in the universe is of equal significance.

Except on a subjective level of course.

Could you then show me the math?

Sorry not been facetious or anything. Just thought that science was pretty split on this. Even if there were an infinite number of planets they could all be in theory dead. Isn't there some scientific theory/formula that deals with this probability of life or intelligent life on other planets but of course we don't have all the information to answer the formula. Anyone?

Crap, there is. It was on my astrophysics exam, but I forget it, it having been on the exam Smile There is an equation though. But still, statistically, there is a very small chance that there is no life on any planet. I think there is most definitely, I don't like to play the low odds, but still, it can't be for certain that there is life.

2.5 is definitely not a lot of money. Think about it. It's 25,000 dollars a year. That's pretty skimpy.

What if you had car payments and a mortgage? Yes, you all might say that we get free rent, but BFD.

Take you living expenses. That's 1 million. Then take out a chunk for any other payments you may have to make. Like for a car. That's 500,000. Right away you have 1 million left. Take out what taxes you'd have to pay in your home country. What's that? 25% more. That's another 600,000.

So you're left with 400 bucks. Big deal.
